Great Gatsby: Why is Gatsby referred to as Gatsby instead of his first name?

I just realized this and I'm curious if there's any reason why F. Scott Fitzgerald did this. The other main characters Nick, Daisy, Tom, Jordan, and Myrtle are all referred to by their first names, so why isn't Gatsby?
