What is the sanding board for in a prisma set?

I recently got this primsacolor premier graphite drawing set. I love it to death! But there is a sanding board in it and I'm not sure what it is used for. Theres a sharpener in it too so I doubt it's for sharpening my pencils. Can anyone tell me what the sanding board is used for?
